Just a old Benz or a beautiful cabrio with pure class? We were looking for you.
The S-Class W111 was there in a number of flavours, W111 was a chassiscode for the top models of Mercedes Benz. The four-door sedans were built from 1959 to 1968, but there were also one-coupe’s and cabriolets from 1961 to 1971, was built. Mercedes began in 1965 with the replacements for the W111 S-Class, but had no plans for new car releases. Therefore, they held the car as W111 versions longer in production than the W111 sedans (which in 1968 was replaced by the W108). To the cars, despite their long life cycle a bit by the time keeping was quite a bit modernized. So there were new engines, different wheels, larger brake discs and a new rear axle that was also used by the new W108.
The S-Class was always a great feat in terms of comfort and technology and with the introduction of the W111 were a number of new techniques introduced. Oprollende belts were for the first time their way to the S-Class (unfortunately not for the cabriolet). Another veiligheidsfeature which was new at that time were the crumple zones where this S-Class boasts.
In this case we look as specific to the cabrio because we thus step were: there were 7456 cabrio W111’s built, of which 1390 cars as the 280 SE of the band rolled in the period from november 1967 to may 1971. The 280 SE was equipped with a M130 2.8 liter six-cylinder engine with 160 hp. This engine was able to keep the car from 0 to 100 in 10.5 seconds. The automatic transmission 13 is doing there a little longer, that is, 13 seconds. A top speed of 188 kilometers per hour is possible. There were also other variants, the only one who was more powerful than the car that we now drive was the 280 SE 3.5 V8.
This specific 280 SE already has quite a pretty life to look back on. The car dates from 1969 and now has more than 104.000 miles on the clock, or a thick has 167,000 miles. That is more than most of the cars that we at Gina Classics have borrowed the past few months, but the good thing is that you actually don’t notice it. The car is ever repainted but is otherwise completely unrestored and perfectly maintained. The leather, carpet and chrome stems all from 1969 and is still in a good condition and of course the car is completely matching numbers.
The many options on this car make it a relaxed car to drive. Air conditioning, leather upholstery, armrests, power steering, tinted glass, an extra padded (and standard electrically operated) convertible top and of course the mandatory item for a car from this time: a Becker Mexico radio. The car drove until recently, around in California, where he will only have two owners has had and really feels like new.
The six in-line, and automatic transmission are clearly geared to comfort, because even if the gas is vloert switch the tank over for the redline to the next gear. If you are sporty and want to drive in something from this time if you can an old Porsche or Austin Healey drive, but if you in all comfort want (to) move, this is really a perfect car. Have you become enthusiastic? Unfortunately, the car is earlier this week sold. If, nevertheless, you had a look at the ad to check, you can have that here.
