American auto industry rescues museum Detroit

For those who missed it, the city of Detroit is bankrupt. So broke even, which is also the city museum, is in danger. Good guy GM, Ford and Chrysler jump now, in the fall to prevent.

The manufacturers of pumps 26 million dollars (19 million euros) in a fund of the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum (DIA). A total of 100 million dollars needed for the substantial art collection to save, according to the American media.

For the manufacturers, which all 3 have their roots in the state of Michigan (including Detroit, the main city is), but it is good PR, waarvor they in addition to media attention, no doubt a nice engraving or something like that to get it back. In addition, pumps GM already so much money in the recall fiasco that this is positive news for a (relative) song at an excellent time.

What, however, I wonder: if the collection of 60,000 works, and an estimated 15 billion dollars worth, why sell the mueseum not just 2 or 3 expensive cloths (if necessary) to the Big Three, who then let it hang)?

Granted, free money is better, to keep the collection complete, but it’s not exactly so that the tent in the fire going if there is not very quickly to $ 100 million is met, or sometimes?
