E-Klasse AMG's
Friday launched Mercedes-AMG, the E 43. Still not the real work, of course, we need to be on the E 63 wait, but it is a good opportunity to look at the history of the E-Class AMG. We put them all in a row, with specs and all.

Both the E-Class AMG its been a while among us, especially if you are also models such as the W123, W114 and older is covered under the E-Class. AMG was founded in 1967, but it lasted until the W123 before the tuner would embark on this series. In 1990, Daimler-Benz, a controlling share in AMG and from the middle of 1993, the W124 officially E-Class. To see the context to which we restrict ourselves. It unfortunately means that the legendary 300 CE 6.0 AMG Widebody Hammer today not attention. A pity, but for more info you can also simply read this article. Stairs we with the E-Class from 1993.

It is striking that the idea of multiple AMG versions, such as that happening now with the 43 – and 63-models, not new at all. Both of the W124 as the W210 were already two different AMG versions available, one with six-cylinder engine, the other with V8. So new is this whole idea so not at all. Imitation was not, incidentally, from 1998, there was only a single AMG model available, any S-models have to be discussed.

I have tried to be as complete as possible, but certainly in the years ’90 has AMG many models in only very small quantities built and were there with some regularity still sondermodellen screwed together. If you have additions or comments, you know where you lost them can.

Mercedes E 36 AMG (W124)
The little brother of the below-mentioned E 60, with a 3.6 litre opgeboorde six-in-line, a further development of the 300 CE 3.4 AMG. There were only a few tens of Coupe’s and Convertibles made, and 171 wagons, the so-called T-Model.

Mercedes E 60 AMG (W124)
An upgrade of the already sick, partly due to the Porsche-developed E 500. This E 60’s rolled out of the band, but you could only order it as an “option” on an E 500. It rolled so first as such of the band, then AMG is upgraded with a larger engine and improved suspension.

Model years: 1993-1994
Engine: 6.0 V8 (M119 E60)
Power: 376 hp

Mercedes E 36 AMG (W210)
Same block as in the W124 E 36 found its way to the W210. Not frequent by the way, more than 400 it not been there. Exterior this E 36 AMG similar to the E 50 and E 55 AMG before the facelift.

Mercedes-benz E 50 (E 60) AMG (W210)
Another forgotten gem of AMG, the E 50. It was only for model year 1997 built, about 2870 copies in total. Optional you could get the car also get up to six litres of opgeboorde V8 with 381 hp, or even a 6.2 V8 with 405 hp. The 0-100 time then took off to, respectively, 4.9 and 4.7 seconds. Both opgeboorde models were, incidentally, the name E 60 AMG.

The first E-Class AMG in really large numbers was produced, about 12,000 in total. The well-known 5439cc big block had it in the W210 even without the supercharger it came with the W211 in 2003. Up to the facelift saw the E 55 AMG there krek any as the E 36, E 50 and E 60 AMG, after the facelift model what rounder bumpers and side skirts.

Model years: 1998-2003

Mercedes E 55 AMG (W211)
The W211 generation E-Class got the same 5.4-liter big block as its predecessor, but it is equipped with a Lysholm-supercharger from IHI. In the E 55 is good for 476 hp, while the same engine in the SL 55 AMG, for example, was good for 517 hp. You ought to to complain left, of course.

Engine: 5.4 V8, supercharger (M113 ML55)
Power: 476 hp

Mercedes-benz E 63 AMG (W211) (driving test)
After the facelift in 2006 the W211 disappeared the AMG briefly in its product range, in 2007, to return again and again as the E 63 AMG. Without Supercharger, but with more engine, more horses, and especially an even finer sound. Not that the howling of the supercharger annoying it was to listen to, but the atmospheric 6.2 V8 sounded really brilliant and deliciously uncivilized.

Model years: 2007-2009
Engine: 6.2 V8 (M156)
Power: 514 hp
Top speed: 250 km/h limited
0-100 km/h: 4.5 s

Engine: 6.2 V8 (M156)
Power: 525 hp
Top speed: 250 km/h limited
0-100 km/h: 4.5 s

Mercedes-benz E 63 AMG (W212)
Same name, completely different block. Ran the naming of the AMG models till now always equal to the engine power, a few cc’s aside, from the E 63 from 2011, there was a change in. For the sake of consumption and emission, the atmospheric V8 is replaced by 5461cc-measuring V8 with two turbo’s. The power remained exactly equal to that of its predecessor, however, ran to the car 0.2 seconds faster to the hundred.

0-100 km/h: 3.6 s

Mercedes-AMG E 43 4Matic (W213)
On the new E 63 should we have to wait a while, but the E 43 is loose. Under the hood is a 2996cc measuring V6 with two turbo’s and 401 hp. In terms of power locks in this new E 43 neatly between the E55, with and without a supercharger, while he even faster to the one hundred sprint, then the copy with. For the first time will get an E-Class AMG only all-wheel drive (it was already available as an option on the W213 E 63 S AMG), rear-wheel drive is likely to be reserved for the upcoming E 63.
