James Key, technical boss at Toro Rosso, in an interview, an interesting booklet open about the goings-on within the breeding ground of Red Bull.
In the extensive interview gives Key a fun glimpse inside the team of Toro Rosso. For those who have no appetite for the whole shebang to read, we have the hoogtepuntjes there for you break stolen. Since we do not hard at all.
The comparison Max vs Carlos
As expected praises Key to our compatriot because of his aggressive and brave style of riding. It radiates Verstappen of self-confidence, what also is evident from the magnificent inhaalacties of Max. More about that later. Sainz on the other hand, within Toro Rosso profiled itself as a very disciplined driver who think carefully about exactly where he is engaged in. In addition, the Spaniard is more focus on the longer term, and so what the deal with tire wear and overtaking.
The inhaalacties of Max
Verstappen hustle and bustle a hearty stamp on last season with the most brilliant inhaalacties. According to the Key, however, is the all a bit less impulsive than you might think. The actions are in advance discussed, which again has to do (or better said: had) with the lack of power. Key stresses, however, that the overtaking will not be pre-planned. In addition, we have Max, of course, also already busy seen on a virtual Spa-Francorchamps. What he showed was almost an exact copy of the move that he later, outside in Blanchimont would lash out.
The quality of the Toro Rosso chassis
That the Toro Rosso in particular in curves very well could run with the rest, or perhaps top of the field, is not news. Nevertheless, it is interesting to Key itself to hear how the proportions exactly. The technical man reveals that the bochtensnelheid of the STR10 for example, in Barcelona only a Mercedes for themselves had to suffer in the fast corners of the circuit. That’s seriously fast and a clear sign that the chassis of the Italian renstal really was very good.
Toro Rosso in 2016
Because the team is good they understand why the STR10 such improvement was compared to the STR9, think Key that the renstal in 2016 even better the paint will come. About the new (or old, whatever you want) Ferrari engine, he does not, however, statements. About the how and why behind this choice can endlessly be speculated, but we leave that happily to you.
In each case we sense the coming season! A small two weeks, on 22 February, the first test session planned at the circuit of Barcelona. The lap times on that day will be driven to offer absolutely no guarantees for the rest of the season, but we have after a long winter again to Formula 1-area look forward to!
