Staat BMW's i8 aan de basis van de nieuwe Lexus LFA?
It is almost two years ago that the signatures were put under the partnership agreement between Toyota and BMW. Nevertheless, we have at present really NOTHING to concrete plans heard on the sporting field, let alone that there is already an official car is announced. But rumors, of which there are in abundance.

Since the initial announcement which stated that the Japanese and Germans, their forces would combine to make the basic ingredients for a sports car to develop, it is suspected to have remained silent. As if they are in the boardrooms sit back against each other, shouted: ‘so, and is now waiting on the moronic rumors that the automediaas on the come up.’

Well, here are a few of the samenwerkingsgeruchten so far:

  • Next BMW Z4 on Toyota GT86 platform
  • BMW is considering the Z5 and Z7 in cooperation with Toyota
  • Toyota Supra is a BMW i8 in disguise

All plausible, but a confirmation of the above plans, there is not yet. Now comes the Japanese Best Car with the news that Toyota’s luxury brand technique of the hybrid-powered BMW i8 will use for the successor of the 500 pieces limited edition LFA. That means a small combustion engine in the rear – in the i8 has a 231 hp and 320 Nm is strong 1.5-litre three-cylinder – which is supported by one or two electric motors which turn the front wheels to drive.

A setup that is radically different than that of the current LFA, where a 4.8 V10 with 560 horsepower under the hood, with the suspension at 9.500 rpm. It would be for BMW and are an ideal way to the sky-high development costs of the 149.000 euro-dollar i8 to spread, but is it going to happen: we dare our hand in the fire to cross. Let these guys first but commitments do. (via 4Wheelsnews)
