February 10 in history: start Adobe Photoshop, the chess computer Deep Blue, the premiere of the Pentium III processor

10 February 1990, Adobe released the first version of Photoshop for the Apple Macintosh. Initially, the program called Image Pro, and was supported by Thomas Knoll, but in 1988 it was bought by Adobe Systems and was renamed in Photoshop. The first commercial version was called Barneyscan XP, it was released in 1989 and comes bundled with the Barneyscan scanners. However, Adobe had very big plans, and in 1990 Photoshop has become a separate and independent program.

Today, Photoshop is the most popular package for working with raster graphics and photo processing. And the word “photoshop” has become a household word. However, Adobe for some reason trying to fight it. The official website has a special section where the company explains the features of the use of certain words. Wrong: “This image ochotorena”. Right: “This image was enhanced using Adobe Photoshop”. Of course, in life no one’s to say that won’t be until until with photoshop employs people, not robots.

February 10, 1996 in Philadelphia, Garry Kasparov first played with the chess computer IBM Deep Blue. The match consisted of six games that each players were given 2 hours time to reflect on the first 40 moves, two hours for the next 20 moves and one hour to finish the game.

The meeting in 1996 was won by Kasparov with a score of 4-2, but already after a year, in the second match in new York, Kasparov lost to Deep Blue (3.5 to 2.5) and became the first reigning world champion, the loser of the computer.

On 10 February 1999 at an event in Cannes showed the Intel Pentium III processor. However, it was more of a preview to partners and press, since the official announcement of the processor was only made on 26 February of the same year. The first new family of processors worked on frequency of 450-500 MHz.

The core of the Pentium III was a modified version of the Deschutes, which was used in the processors of the previous generation. And among the major innovations included the support of SSE instructions and optimized work with memory. Thanks to that, Intel managed to improve performance in new applications that use SSE extensions, and the existing ones (due to the increased speed of work with memory).
