The flemish are petrolheads, grasping for all the car

Our Neighbors are huge petrolheads, or just very lazy. A study shows that even for extremely short distances (1 to 3 kilometers), the vast majority of the car packs.

A quarter of the respondents takes own the car if they are less than 1 kilometer to travel, but the half does fortunately, however, per foot. Trips of 1 to 3 kilometers in 66% of cases per car. Pretty hefty if you ask me.

Minister Hilde Crevits is also fairly surprised at the outcome:

“We continue to be indeed real autominnaars. It is unlikely how quickly we the car for trips that we are perfectly capable of cycling”

The government would of course rather see that more often the bike is used, or that people with the public transport. Also there would be a so-called mobility app.

There are for autohaters also some bright spots to detect. For distances longer than 40 km the train with 20% quite popular and in the cities of Antwerp and Ghent, people go to much more often with the bike. (via: standard.be)
