The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has yet to be delivered in the Netherlands, but with 5000+ orders already very popular. However, the car is currently running against some hot issues, which are first corrected should be.
The combination of acccupakket’ and ‘fire’ came up often the past, both Fisker as Opel/Chevrolet have their fight, rightfully or not, have to carry out. Batteries produce just heat, and it is an illusion to think that new technologies can enter without the somewhere a time error.
How about for hitachi projector? The supplier of the Li-ion battery (GS Yuasa Corp.) is the same manufacturer that the batteries in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner stops, and as you probably know is that unit since January to the floor for possible fire hazard (earlier this week was there for the first time since January, a test flight carried out), whereby the battery as the main culprit is notified (this is, of course, examined).
As for the Outlander plug-in, Mitsubishi, on his guard, and not for nothing: during a test at Mitsubishi last week flew a battery pack in a fire, and also is there a battery in an electric car melted. Yes, you did read that correctly, melted.
In a response sent hitachi projector two days ago a press release to the world, which requested the Outlander PHEV until further notice, to charge. In addition, deliveries will be suspended until the cause of the problem. Also, GS Yuasa has published yesterday a press release about the matter.
The suspension of the deliveries could still be very unpleasant consequences for the Dutch market. Indeed, as from 2014, changes to the bijtellingsregime for the Outlander from 0% to 7%. There is the customer and manufacturer so committed to there in 2013, as much as possible on plates.
We had some burning questions, but unfortunately it was Mitsubishi today not be reached for comment.
Update 13:45 – Mitsubishi called back, below is a summary:
– The battery supplier has its produtieproces recently modified, and in the above-mentioned two cases regarding the batteries after the modification. There is, therefore, very strongly in mind that the problem is somewhere in the modification are to be searched, and the manufacturer expects up to 2 weeks need to have to find a solution.
– Mitsubishi has no view on the similarities between the Dreamliner batteries, and which, in their cars, there is no information provided.
– European production has not yet begun, which will start in april. The first boats to the Netherlands departing in may. If the problem is quickly fixed there will be no delay in delivery occur.
– The number of Dutch orders is currently the 8,000 already passed, the expectation is still that these Outlanders all in 2013, on the number plate can be put, of course, without a hard guarantee.
