Government gets almost 20 billion euros to road users

Motorists often feel the cash-cow of the government and thanks to new figures from BOVAG and RAI Vereniging, we finally understand the amount of money that road users annually pay. Last year was namely, to 19.7 billion euros, while the expenditure of the Empire for travel facilities only 5.2 billion euros. And that includes work on the track.

Lease contracts provide the Dutch State around 2.2 billion euros on an annual basis. That equates to an average of more than 12,000 euros per lease. The four most important items are:
1. Taxes on passenger cars and motorcycles (BPM): € 900.000.000
2. Excise tax: € 800.000.000
3. The road tax (MRB): € 450.000.000
4. WA premium: € 40.000.000
