An experimental drug against aging

With age the cells in our bodies wear out. Worn out cells are not always excreted timely and as a result begin to “infect” the surrounding tissue and other cells. This process is called cellular senescence that ultimately leads not only to aging, but can cause a variety of diseases, including cancer. Scientists from the Mayo Clinic (USA, one of the largest clinics in the world) proved in experiments on laboratory mice that the derivation of these worn-out cells from the body can improve their health and life expectancy up to 35 percent and without any side effects.

Although usually worn out cells eventually eliminated from the body through the immune system over time (with age) the immune system becomes less effective and ceases to cope with this task. This leads to a dissemination of worn-out cells and as a consequence — the aging of the body. Even though these cells can no longer divide, they can still harm the surrounding tissue and cell specific compounds that they secrete. This ultimately can lead to the development of age-related diseases.

To help the immune system in cleansing the body from unwanted mice cells, scientists from the Mayo Clinic used a drug they created, which received the name of experimental AP20187. The introduction of the drug really helped to get rid of worn-out cells. Meanwhile, the scientists noted that space and foci formation of tumors, as well as the deterioration of the internal organs of rodents decreased dramatically. Moreover, the life cycle of these mice in different cases has increased from 17% to 35%, and in adipose and muscle tissue, and kidney was sharply reduced inflammation.

“Accumulating inside the body of worn out cells with age cause serious damage to your organs and tissues, shortening your life and health,” commented Jan van Dersar, one of the leading authors of the study.

“As well as the withdrawal of these cells from the body without any side effects our genetic model, we used, it proved that the use of special medicines and drugs, able to remove worn out cells, will be a very useful weapon against therapists age-related diseases”.

The main author of the study Darren Baker adds that they have received an experimental drug is very effective and can lead to significant improvements in the health because it can excrete 60 to 70 percent worn-out cells.

“The drug can effectively and quickly bring a sufficient number of used cells to affect overall health and lifespan of an organism”, — said the scientist.
