Tonight in Berlin the new Smart Fortwo and Forfour revealed. After the obligatory lekplaatjes we have here all the info for you.
The one and a half decades after the introduction of the first Smart in ’98 parent company Daimler the latest scions revealed. They are still small outside, big inside, city, and recognizable as a Smart. The engine is again back mounted, as well as the drive shafts. Not surprising, when you consider that the Smart’s chassis, shared with the also rear-wheel drive Twingo.
The latest Smart Fortwo, the third generation already – meet 2,69 metres in length, 1,66 metres in width and is 1.55 metres high. The wheelbase is 1.85 metres. With the engine at the rear could Smart the turning radius reduce to 6,95 metres (kerb-to-kerb) and 7,30 meters (wall to wall) by the wheels to stop. For a stadsvoiture a pleasant improvement. And while the overhang in front of and behind still further reduced, the track width by 100 mm increased.
The technique
Both the ForTwo as the ForFour is the characteristic tridion safety cell remained. Smart equips them also with zijwindassistent (standard), automatic distance adjustment (option) and spoorassistent (option). The Germans say at the front axle to have made use of parts from the C-Class, the rear is an optimized De Dion-rear axle placed.
Six cylinders
Excuse me, we mean actually two driecilinders. Smart delivers the ForTwo and ForFour with a 999 cc three cylinder that 71 hp supplies and from at 2,850 rpm 91 Nm generates. The topper is a 898 cc three-cylinder with turbo. This cough 90 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 135 Nm at 2,500 rpm. The new turbo has an electronically controlled wastegate and is – of course – equipped with an automatic start/stop system. It will not come as a surprise, but it is the same cubes as in the Twingo.
New for Smart the two transmissievarianten: customers have the choice of either a vijfversnellingsbak and the twinamic six-speed gearbox with double clutch.
Personalize you can learn
The new Smartjes come in three versions (Passion, Prime and Proxy40) and the notes offer 40 different combinations for the body panels and the tridion safety cell. We did not expect anything else from the brand that prides itself on to as many as possible color options to offer. Inside, you can of course change everything. The curved dashboard is made up of two parts. An outer part that can possibly be provided with a fabric lining, and a large inner, recessed part that the functional elements houses. In the dashboard, are the the instrumentcluster and the smart media system with radio/navigation system on a ‘floating’ way.
