King Willem-Alexander to start MINI production in Born

Our king reopened the factory of VDL Nedcar, where more than 2,000 employees to get started with making MINI’s.

Nedcar was a few years ago at the point of death: Mitsubishi pulled the plug out and just as it seemed that hundreds of people sent home had to be. Eventually paid, VDL expensive, but much-needed renovation of the facility, which is 82 million euro cost, and retrieves BMW now a part of his MINI’s from the province of Limburg. Also the government contributed 6.5 million euro, while also ensuring for a special UNEMPLOYMENT insurance scheme. The 1,500 employees received a payment and remained connected to Nedcar.

Now the future looks a lot brighter, and it was celebrated in the presence of our king. MINI needs to grow and the 2,000 employees in Born play an important role. In order to expand to be able to sustain will, VDL Nedcar, in the coming time even a thousand extra people assume. They all get training in MINI-factories in Germany and Great Britain.

Born also build an exclusive MINI, to the start of the production to celebrate. It comes to the MINI Cooper First-Born Edition, of which there are a total of 350 made. These MINI’s are intended only for the Dutch dealers.
