Bosch is working on multi-stage transmissions for EV’s

Where conventional cars through the years oppose, is in the case of electric cars, typically one gear to the electric motor associated with it. If the Bosch is going to change that.

The powerband of an EV is fundamentally different than that of a car on petrol or diesel: the maximum torque is instantly available, the electric motor runs trouble-free speed of 20,000 rpm. This is the need of changing bakverhoudingen much less large. Almost every EV will do it with 1 resistance, an exception is the Exagon eGT.

Bosch wants to change that, because it thinks the benefits in the fine-tuning to achieve:

“High-precision automatic transmissions are essential in hybrid vehicles to ensure that the combustion engine and electric motor are synchronised with each another, but such transmissions could also find their way into pure electric vehicles.”

So, it may just be that we a few years a Nissan Leaf or Tesla Model 3 with a 8-speed automatic, and shifters behind the wheel. And if it’s a few extra miles out of the battery’s squeezes, why not? Also Antonov gave in the past to something like that to work, but we have, in terms of concrete results and more confidence in Bosch.
