Zo werkt de Koenigsegg Regera zonder versnellingsbak
Now all the news from Geneva is landed, we continue to still have one issue, which we’d like to be under the spotlight. Namely, the operation of the versnellingsbakloze Regera, the 1500 horsepower luxespeeltje from the sleeve of Christian von K. Is the Bald Genius all the way mesjogge, or you can actually a megacar without ‘tank? We lay it out.

He just did it. While car manufacturers are massively switching from manual/automatic to transmissions with dual clutches, conjures Christian von Koenigsegg and his team of engineers, powertrain forth, that shit has to conventions.

To understand this better, first look at all the components in the powertrain, by the Swedish brand was renamed Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD):
Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD)

  • 5.0 V8 internal combustion engine: The dual turbo-equipped block delivers 1100 hp at 7800 rpm. The model intervenes at 8250 rpm. The torque amounts to roughly 1000 Nm, that is released from 2700 rpm.
  • Battery: Before the achtcilinder, actually in the middle of the car, is a liquid-cooled 9.27 kWh Rimac battery of 115 kg, is placed. Fully charged, this gives the 1420 kg weight the Regera an electric range of 50 kilometers.
  • Electric motor #1: between the battery and the V8 is an electric motor, 160 kW strong. Also doubles as a starter motor for the achtcilinder. More important: he can have his power to the crankshaft of the V8 to deliver.
  • Hydraulic link: This link allows the V8 to link or unlink the two axles that the rear wheels drive. You can see it as a kind of torque converter 2.0, because he can traction forces for 100% transfer to the differential, that figure is mounted and a gear ratio of 2.85:1).
  • Electric motor #2 & #3: These e-motors are connected to the drive shafts. They produce 180 kW (244PK) per piece and must the Regera from a standstill in motion.

The operation of Koenigsegg Direct Drive

The Regera is in motion by the two rear electric motors (#2 & #3) started. From a standstill, driving the Regera so always electric way (mind you, this thing is in 2,6 seconds in the 100). In this stage, the hydraulic clutch open and there is no connection with the internal combustion engine. Which can in turn be charging the battery, should the need arise.

As the speed of the Regera increases, the hydraulic clutch further close. The V8 delivers more power to the 20-inch rear wheels. Around the 50 km/h to close the hydraulic coupling and the V8 are connected directly with the wheels. Without any further intervention of a transmission. (In fact, the Regera therefore a gearbox with 1 gear.) From 50 km/h on the power of both the V8 and the three electric motors – 1500 hp, or 1,11 MW in its completeness to the rear wheels.

From 0 to 400 km/h in 20 count

The advantage of such a driveline? No switching times, the weight of a transmission, and a high-speed 0-400-time of under 20 seconds when all the forces come together. Well, that last we have Koenigsegg is still in practice where see, but we can’t wait for this thing will be able to see the road. More about the Regera, you can read HERE.
