You must dare to: a foeilelijke, to small electric car on the market. And in 1999, as virtually no one gives to a favourable tax or CO2 emissions.
Yet it was what Mike Corbin in 1999 did. His company had been working for a few years to a fully electric vehicle and eventually came up with the Corbin Sparrow. This electric tricycle withstood all the tests of the Us Department of Transportation and was then in the year 2000 in production.
The Sparrow had thirteen batteries, and took as up to a hundred miles on a single charge. Not bad for a car from fourteen years ago. Add to this that the microcar with ease, the 110 kilometres per hour and you could z’n cons almost forgotten. We can not ignore the fact that the tricycle is rather alien appearance and not particularly attractive looks.
Corbin sold a total of some 300 Sparrows, but provided there’s ultimately a lot less. The idea of Corbin turned out on paper, namely fun, really reliable was the electric single-seater. Also Sparrows that were delivered to, had to, in many cases, back to the factory. Therefore it came as no surprise that Corbin Motors three years after the introduction of the Sparrow went bankrupt.
Incidentally, the remaining Sparrows in 2004 and acquired by Myers Motors. They’re still working on a successor of this electric pioneer.
