The Alfa Romeo 159 was given the heavy task entrusted to the very successful 156 to follow. Not an easy task and in addition, the 159 is significantly higher positioned than its predecessor.
The 159 is safer, more comfortable, better equipped, but also heavier and more expensive than the 156. That meant that for the business 156 riders upgrade to the 159, there not always in there. That was and is a shame, because the 159 is a much more solid car than its predecessor. The supply of used cars is however not very large and the 159 is undeservedly less popular.
Under the sleek-styled bonnet of the 159 were Alfa’s own diesels, but the petrol engines had their origin in Opel. In 2008 a minimal facelift and came to “own” engines back.
