Alfa Romeo 159
The Alfa Romeo 159 was given the heavy task entrusted to the very successful 156 to follow. Not an easy task and in addition, the 159 is significantly higher positioned than its predecessor.

The 159 is safer, more comfortable, better equipped, but also heavier and more expensive than the 156. That meant that for the business 156 riders upgrade to the 159, there not always in there. That was and is a shame, because the 159 is a much more solid car than its predecessor. The supply of used cars is however not very large and the 159 is undeservedly less popular.

Under the sleek-styled bonnet of the 159 were Alfa’s own diesels, but the petrol engines had their origin in Opel. In 2008 a minimal facelift and came to “own” engines back.

  • With the 2.2 JTS (up to 2008) can timing chain stretch, lucky breaks that do not. The engine management light and various other lights on the dashboard.
  • Stuurbekrachting: early cars can wrong red oil, should be green.
  • Tire wear on the inside of the front tires.
  • Rust on the motorsubframe: the paint is too thin and the backing material to sand it.
  • Make sure that all doors open, especially behind the locks sometimes malfunction.
  • Diesel: Only power above the 2000 rpm: EGR valve problem. When cars were a lot of short trips are done, you may experience this earlier on.
  • Diesel: water Pump diesels is weak, can crash, and this timing belt is to pop. That is expensive, but less disastrous if at the time of previous generation Alfa’s. Every 90,000 km or 4 years replace.
  • Diesel: Loss of engine power: swirl flaps in intake manifold defective. Break fortunately not.
  • Diesel: Gearbox 1.9 JTD: especially in fifth and sixth gear, the lever does not move.
