Especially for those who are intellectually stimulated by silicone-filled gratenpakhuizen on calendars, today we will the depth, with a series of dark, but oh-so-artistic photos with the subject “people vs cars”.
Justine Kurland is an American photographer, who like the rawness of the society visited and photographed. This means that no staged, carefully choreographed photo shoots, but just the opposite: in real life, almost nonchalant-like photos, where the protagonists be made secondary to the sketched picture. It seems like the goal is the viewer a form of discomfort to give, in a sometimes very minimalistic composition. And that may, because it is art.
Sincere Auto Care is the title of her latest solo exhibition, where we scenes see Kurland in her wanderings through the United States enacted. They are characterized by some native English speakers ‘grittiness’ would call, without extra lighting, and with men whose tattoos more than their facial expressions. The image of men and/or cars is not a binding condition, broken concrete in a workshop voloet also meet the criteria.
If you, like I, agree with the statement, “What Casper Might Look Like If He Grew Up to Be a Junkie in Tacoma,” have stood still, then do your glasses with horn-rimmed glasses frame on, you practice your difficult look, leave a soul patch, and go with a glass of Chablis in one and a pipe in the other hand to Kurlands exhibition at Mitchell-Innes & Nash in New York look. Kurlands photos will explain. You still have until October 11. Tick-tock.
