UNHCR: influx of refugees does not take off

ATHENS –

The number of refugees from Turkey the crossing to Greece is still not taken. In January, more than 58 thousand refugees and migrants in rickety boats to Greece, says UN refugee organisation UNHCR. For comparison: in July of last year, there were approximately 55 thousand.

The European Union announced in november that agreements with Turkey to the influx of refugees in to dams, but those events seem so far, so to have had little effect. The journey that the refugees make is life-threatening. Since the beginning of the year, according to UNHCR 309 refugees and migrants died or disappeared.
