Powers with a communist background have a new toy to play along (or in) to parading.
The well-known Hongqi – the Chinese equivalent of Rolls Royce, but just a little different – has a droptop version of the L5 presented. The 5.5-metre-long limousine is very suitable for party leaders, heads of state and other important figures to show off (check out those handy steunpaal). Something that already was presented at the Victory Day Parade in Russia on 9 may, where in addition to a complete arsenal of weapons to use also the four door L5 Cabrio was used. As if the Soviet Union never dissolved.
The Ford Thunderbird-like parade-cars were a gift from the Chinese Ministry of Defence to White-Risland. The two countries in the economic field more and larger friends of each other, so then can such a gift of course. Under the hood is a 6.0 V12, good for 411 hp and 548 Nm. The weight of the dense version is 3.2 tonnes. What this paradevariant in the scale captures is not known.
What we did notice is that the interior of the L5 they don’t want. With a beautiful finish, fancy houtinleg and a few neatly-integrated displays. It is not that Bentley and Rolls-Royce immediately have to worry to this dochtermerk of First Auto Works (FAW), the oldest car manufacturer of China, but they make nice steps.
