A few years ago there was a 14% bijteller drive really hard, but despite that, the limits for CO2 emissions are decreased, the choice will only become bigger and bigger. One-hundred-and-ninety hp or a lot of space, without the crazy make concessions in other areas. Both fighting cocks are great cars, but which one should you choose and why?
[ First look, then read? Watch the video HERE! ]
The Octavia Combi Greenline
In the left corner, we find the Skoda Octavia. Solid, predictable and rational, there is nothing wrong with that. It is a car that many share with concerngenoten Leon and Golf, both of which also as a diesel, with 14% additional tax liability that are available. The Octavia scores the best on an important topic: space. In the back you can sit well and the trunk is huge. In regard to that score, the Octavia very well in terms of functionality.
It is also the weakest point: rational can’t you order the Octavia, but really greedy, most people are not. It is difficult to quantify, but surely Audi does it with the same basic ingredients are quite different.
The Volvo V40 D4 Drive-E Business
Just like the Octavia is the Volvo V40 is not unknown on the Dutch roads. Despite the name with a V in it, it is still a hatchback. The appearance is clearly more pronounced than the Octavia, but it is also on the inside where the Volvo a lot more points you get. The V40 gives you the premium feeling, and there is clearly more money on materials issued than the Octavia. Still used Volvo floating center console, in the case of this Ocean Race Edition is executed in aluminum. The smoelt just fine, but at the same time, you have nothing to the small box, what’s behind it.
The space in the rear is less clear, but the format of the back seat is more comfortable. In the V40 sits you a little more to the middle so that you still have a little look out. The boot of the Octavia is much bigger, but as soon as we have both rear doors open, waved, we found the difference less significant than previously thought.

On paper wins the V40 it easy in terms of performance, but that tells only one side of the story. The 1.6 TDI engine of the Octavia surprised in terms of eagerness, it feels as if there is more than the specified 110 hp and 250 Nm available. Ultimately, the V40 is much faster, but the gap is sometimes less than you would at first think. In terms of operational characteristics are and refinement explains the Octavia, however. The 1.6 TDI has the edge much more and has a much less beautiful structure of the ability. That is what scores the D4 block, Volvo high eyes: the krachtsopbouw is pretty linear and the 2.0 liter block runs much quieter.
With slightly nicer materials and better details gives the V40 you a feeling of luxury. Exaggerated: a volvo V40 lease feels like a reward for hard work, an Octavia is a vehicle.
Conclusion
Wouter: Is there a winner? With the heart you, the volvo V40 and there are also rational arguments for the Volvo. The security is unsurpassed, especially if there on the list of options even security features are checked. Also had both Casper as I struggled to find anything to on the basis of emotion for the Octavia to go. The Church is spacious, and sitting comfortably in each other, but the heart does not jump.
Casper: as Wouter has already said, rationally speaking, there is reason enough for the Skoda to choose. Everyone who asks me or the Skoda Octavia Greenline is a good choice within the criteria “14%, space, diesel,” can I car recommend. It is not so dull as that of a 110 hp dieselstation would expect and I find the cabin nearly as pleasant as that of the V40, as a big plus, t.o.v. the Volvo in my opinion, more pleasant working infotainment unit. The base price of the Octavia is also slightly lower: €25.650 euro versus the €26.995 euros of the V40. But what if you are 14% tax and diesel have to drive your boss and you’re looking for a little bit of emotion and fun in a car? In that case, it is of these two cars, the Volvo is the better choice. It is not the aiming distance that I had expected between the two, but better is ‘it has to be. Movie!
