No agreement to exchange data with US

STRASBOURG –

The European Commission has not yet new able to reach agreement on the exchange of private data with the United States. Responsible European Commissioner Vera Jourova (Justice) made that Monday evening in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, known. The national supervisory authorities on data protection had Brussels until now, the time given to close a deal.

In the autumn, the European Court of Justice ruled that personal data of European internet users are not just allowed to be transferred to the United States. This was a line by a fifteen-year-old decision from Brussels that the US is commented on as a ‘safe haven’ for private data.

Jourova said that the negotiators , and, close together,” and expressed the hope that,in the short term and as quickly as possible” is consistent.

Tuesday and Wednesday consult the national supervisory authorities how they now proceed. The absence of a deal makes a lot of Meps concerns. GroenLinks-politician Judith Sargentini had about a bomb on the cracks. Jeroen Lenaers (CDA) wants to know what plan B is.
