15 years in prison for Italian pilot in Albania

TIRANA –

A court in Albania has an Italian pilot Monday to 15 years in prison convicted of international drug trafficking. The verdict came two years after his plane during a landing on a beach on the Adriatic Sea, in may 2014 the nose wheel broke off and got stuck. The discovery of the crash of the Piper-aircraft laid a new drugsroute expose between Italy and Albania.

Two other aircraft were in Italy were seized. Drug smugglers turned out to be the small planes, but regular use of cannabis smuggling between the two countries.

The penalty against the Italian pilot was much higher than that of five Albanian partners, who were caught with hundreds of pounds of drugs in the vicinity of the stranded plane. The pilot rejected all the accusations, his accomplices received sentence remissions because they have debt and acquaintances.
