Audi has spent the last 15 years of Le Mans in a complete lockdown. Opponents came and went, but finally I succeeded only 1 time the brand with the 4 rings to beat on the Circuit de la Sarthe. An impressive list of achievements.
After the first successes with the R8 racer from 2000, pioneered in (and won) Audi with diesel, first in the R10 TDI with 12 thick cylinders, but in the meantime this number has been halved and rolls the R18 TDI, with the help of e-tron quattro as the most energy-efficient LMP1-racer ever around Le Mans.
The goal this year is to use the latest R18 e-tron quattro the course record to grab. And even though the LMP1-field of participants is stronger than ever, the results of the first 2 races of the season (win at Silverstone and at Spa-Francorchamps) are encouraging. Audi made a nice overview of the successes in this century, that is, below you can see:
ultra
Under the ultra-flag constructs Audi the most competitive racers (in addition to the successful R18 won the R8 LMS this year, the 24 hours of the Nürburgring), and, of course, translates this success to the passenger cars. Here means ‘ultra’, as in the circuit of ‘efficiency’. In practice, this translates to a nice low tax liability without performance sacrificing.
Win races on sunday, sell cars on monday may be an old adage, racesucces books do you sell certainly no pain.
