This weekend it is again: the 24 hours of Le Mans. Gijs van Lennep won the race once (1971) and Jan Lammers came ever across the finish line first (1988). But those who hold this year, the Dutch honour high?

A fantastic year as in 1971 or 1988 will not be in the typically the eindoverwinnaar supplying LMP1 class driving not a single compatriot. In 2008, Jos Verstappen, Jeroen Event and Peter van merksteijn first in the slightly less powerful LMP2 class with a Porsche, this year is the Ho-Pin Tung as the only one Dutchman plays in this class.

Ho-Pin Tung

He rides along with the Frenchman Léo Roussel and the American David Cheng in the Morgan-Nissan of the German Pegasus Racing. One of the few open LMP2 cars and in addition in a recognizable color scheme, so easy to keep an eye on. It is striking that both Tang as Cheng, the Chinese flag on their anywhere, but they according to the organization, respectively, Dutch and American.

Also the LM GTE Pro class, it must be this year without the Dutch contribution, the two other Dutch guys we come up against in the ‘slowest’ LM GTE Am class. Jeroen Event is the first rider of the American Riley Motorsports, the only team that with a Dodge Viper at the start. The Americans Keating and Miller should Event help to finish first in his class. The Langeafstandsracerij is a specialty of Event, except for the LMP2 class in 2008, he was the past two years, respectively first and second at the 24 hours of the Nürburgring.

Xavier Maassen

Xavier Maassen

Xavier Maasen takes place in a ‘youngtimer’: the only Porsche 911 of the 997 generation which is this year at the start. Fully Dutch teams are missing this year, unfortunately, and also veteran and former winner Jan Lammers shines by their absence. Hopefully it will next year with Jumbo ceo Frits van Eerd back to the Circuit de la Sarthe. Van Eerd is ready with Dakar, and wants the arrows on Le Mans focus, and out of the mouth of Lammers has undersigned also all agree that such plans taken care of. Who knows!
