New Mercedes C-Class: Benz with a growth spurt

Waiting on Mercedes’ latest bread and butter model is over. Say hello to the W205 C-Class. Larger, more luxurious, and, of course, more economical than ever!

Since the CLA is the C-Class is one rung higher on the ladder. That means: more space, more luxury, and of course a higher price. The new C looks indeed like a shrunken S-Class, and at first glance this design language, the butt is not really right. The C is still a lot shorter than the S-Class, making the ass which is high and compact seems.

Actually, it was the entire C-Class drips already on the street, initiated by the usual teaser and spyshotfestijn, but an article with the full ongecamoufleerde appearance seemed to us to be sufficient until the official unveiling.

Dimensions

The new C-Class is 100 kg lighter, 95 mm longer and 40 mm wider than its predecessor. The new dimensions are 4.686 mm x 1.810 mm. The wheelbase increased by 80 mm.

Its predecessor, the W204 sold since its introduction in 2007, worldwide more than 2.4 million copies, Mercedes’ hopes for a similar success. In the run-up took Mercedes, even the old Schumacher stable for a few test shots. Well, then you know that it was a nice, well-balanced product should be.

Engines: four-cylinder dieselhybride

At its introduction the C-Class, with 3 motoriseringen, all viercilinders: as C180 and C200 (petrol) and C220 BlueTEC. The benzinevarianten have 156/184 hp and 250/300 Nm, the diesel puts 170 hp and 400 Nm in the scale. A six-cylinder engine with 333 hp follows, and, of course, is the scant 1.5 Renault diesel later, also in the posh C-Class spooned.

On the picture above we see in addition a C300 four-cylinder dieselhybride (204 + 27 hp), this follows also at a later time.

Switch do you do with the hand with a 6-speed or automatic 7G-tronic. Mercedes 9-speed, now only available in the E350 BlueTec, we don’t see, but according to the rumors this later in the C-Class. Why not direct? Good question…

20% of list price? Yes, of course.

The C180 (manual gearbox) and the C220 BlueTEC (manual and automatic) fall in the 20%-bijtellingscategorie, the rest has the full mep of 25%

We are still very curious as to what that is GPS-sensitive air conditioning exactly means. You will be on the West Bank through the snow to the plow while your air conditioner think that it is outside of 30 degrees is…

Prices

At the beginning of 2014, the new C-Class at the dealer, and right away we have the prices for you: the C 180 from € 36.995, the C 200 from € 39.995, and the C 220 BlueTEC from € 42.995 including VAT and BPM.

The car makes its world premiere in Detroit at the NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) in January 2014.
