Everyone knows the Porsche 917, but in the same time built Porsche also have other long-afstandsracers – such as this ultra light and compact 908 that will soon be under the hammer.
The 908 was founded under the auspices of the now cases, VAG-Godfather Ferdiand Piëch. The design was purpose built, specifically to twisty races as the Targa Florio and at the Nurburgring to win. In short: Porsche had the 917 for Le Mans and the 908 for circuits where more manoeuvrability and less raw speed required.
13 copies produced
Originally there was a 2.990 cc air-cooled 8-cylinder boxer engine with 370 hp and 365 Nm in the 908, with a top speed (depending on gearing) of around 290 km/h. In later versions were the atmospheric engines by new regulations is replaced by the 2.1 litre turbo zescilinders with 500+ hp. If we are not mistaken, this is a 908/3 chassis (number 011), which was later a 908/4-conversion got. The provider has the details, however, were not made public.
All in all, weighed the whole of the 908, with its open cockpit, not more than 540 kg (!), what next the art of omission is partly due to a titanium spaceframe that only 22 kg weighed, and body that only 11.5 kg in the scale explained.
Bring money
Two years ago, there is a also a 908 under the hammer, but it remained stuck on bids of slightly over 1 million euros, partly because the model has no racing pedigree. This 908 has that, and so is the expected return on a minimum of 3.5 million euro.
On september 12, the Porsche in Goodwood under the hammer, along with that dope Bentley Continental S3 of zegeltjesverzamelaar Keith Harris.
