BYD Tang in Beijing
Grand plans for the batterijminnende Chinese friends at BYD. They are going to performance SUV’s, to build the established order such as the BMW X6 M50d in terms of performance to the crown stitches, but a piece schonerder. For this purpose, the ‘542 standard’ has been developed. What does this mean, you ask?

The Chinese explain: 5 represents the maximum seconds it shall take to accelerate from zero to 100km/h (0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds) in future car models. 4 stands for the number of wheels under power. BYD’s future new energy cars will be integrated with all wheel drive. 2 stands for the number of gallons or gasoline maximum that shall be consumed for 100 km traveled in a BYD car.

We therefore get hybrid AWD SUV’s that are at least 1 in 50 drive, but still be less than 5 to count to 100 is accelerating. That sounds ambitious, and that is the also. The first mueslipower-SUV was last week between the other SUV stuff on the Beijing Auto Show revealed, and listens to the name Tang. He does 0-100 in 4,9 seconds (as quickly as aforesaid M50d) and combines a battery pack with a 2 litre turbogeblazen four-cylinder. If you want him to buy you have bad luck, because it is not (yet) a concept.

The Tang gets a planned sequel in 2015 with the Han, in 2016, follows the Ming. Indeed, all names derived from ancient Chinese dynasties.

On its home market sell BYD already has a hybrid sedan in the form of the Qin, an SUV is a logical next step. The Chinese people speak usually also have European ambitions, but let’s wait on the first production SUV from the 5-4-2-series.
