Volvo celebrates 20 years of performance-wagons with a photo shoot where you put your fingers in aflikt. This Swedish beauty’s at their best.
Beginning of the 90’s, the Volvo 850, which becomes a very potent performanceversie received in the form of the T5, with under the hood a 2.3-liter five-in-line with the turbo. This was a relatively unprecedented motorization in what is otherwise a large, square, practical familycar.
In 1994 came with the T-5R the superlative of this Swedish violence, with a boost pressure which is still further increased. This 850 delivered 240 hp and 330 Nm, and was fitted with a Torsen-diff for extra-sporty handling. An instant cult classic was born.
After the 850 came the V70 (as R), and then it was done with spicy Swedish wagons. Fast forward to 2014: Polestar tickled recently to the S60 and V60 to 350 hp, and stuffed them full of the best mechanical components (we only need the name Öhlins to be dropping, and experts know enough). It was for the performance division is an opportunity to have new family member against the 20-year-old father to put in a beautiful photo shoot, in Huntington Beach, California.
The V60 is an impressive machine, but what he crosses off at the prescence of the 850? Is it as Max vs Jos Verstappen, or maybe for now just as Jordy vs Johan Cruyff?
