BMW finds its M3 and M4 are so good that they see nothing in a lightweight version such as a CSL.
That told BMW’s product manager Matt Collins in an interview with Top Gear. According to him, the walk fans already whining about a new CSL, but it goes something like that for some time to come. CSL stands for “Coupe, Sport and Lightweight”, and would actually be only on an M4 pasted can be.
Nevertheless, the new M3 and M4 according to Collins, in principle, all CSL-like cars, only they do not that name. BMW has done its utmost to the M3 and M4 directly at the introduction already as light as possible, with a weight of approximately 1,500 pounds, the new M’s just as much as the E46 M3. There, according to the best man, but only a few of to scrape off, so there is no room for a CSL, as there was with the E46.
The new M3 and M4 are about 80 kilograms lighter than the previous generation M3. That has to do with the smaller engine (V8 back to a 6-in-line), and the application of carbon, aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Of a previous generation M3 is not a CSL version appeared, but BMW built a straatlegale GTS version focused on circuitgebruik. That car also weighs 1500 kilograms (155 kg lighter) because of the air conditioning, the audio system and the rear seat omitted. Also got the GTS a roll cage, a different gearbox and the engine capacity opgeboord to 4.4 litres.
It is quite possible that BMW is in the long run a GTS of the current M3 or M4 is going to build, even though Collins there is nothing about los. After all, it is not so difficult to have the power of the TwinTurbo kind of screws, a roll cage to build, and the luxury look pillowcases. That would be BMW’s fastest production car (0-100 in 4.1 seconds), even faster and itís more nimble-fooled.
Incidentally, promised BMW in 2007, each M3 as CSL to build, but that promise was quickly negated.
