Nothing museum, private collection or dust happen in a forgotten corner for Mazda’s with a glittering racing career, but hanging out with the most special racers of yesteryear in the depths of Mazda’s research center. Yes, there is very, very, very nice stuff.
Which ‘basement’ is not in Japan, but in Irvine, California and is a true heaven for any lover of the rotary engine. Just after entering, you’ll stumble nearly about a seventies RX-2 with 218 hp at to 8,400 rpm. Without einddempers, glorious porn.
Le Mans
But that is not the only one. Because what about a 787B. The only Japanese car made in the prototype class at the 24 hours of Le Mans managed to win. That particular car is in Mazda’s museum, the little brother is in the basement and is practically new.
Turbocharged
Somewhere in a residence is a modern prototype RX-792P tucked away, under the hood a 4-rotor wankel engine, good for 700 hp. But also a GLC hatch ’78 with very little mileage, a turbocharged all-wheel-drive 323 GTX, and a lot of RX-7’s.
FWD
Rarities you can find in the form of a twinturbo Cosmo with three rotors, which are only in Japan appeared. But also in the form of a Luce coupe from 1969, the only Mazda with a rotary engine and front wheel drive.
MX-5 Coupé
In such a collection may be a homage to the MX-5 is not missing. Or Miata, as those things are not welcome. The 14th and 15th MX-5 ever built there -in top condition – and also a supercharged concept has its place. But more especially is perhaps the one-off MX-5 Fastback Coupé.
There is still sat on this collection of dicks, but watching is more fun! (via BBC)
With thanks to Sjoerd for the tip!
