What historical Opel model name need to come back?

Opel is working now hard on the road to the brand image that the New Kids with the green Manta has dropped from the table to wipe. And let’s be honest, in addition to Claudia Schiffer ‘Oh’, let’s say there is no better way to do that than by an illustrious model to substances.

Yesterday seeped in news by Opel in march to the annual car show of Geneva, and a new GT takes. Meanwhile the original GT a true classic. Originally had no less than Bizzarrini was given the task to create a design for what the GT had, but ultimately chose to Opel for its own design. Fun fact: Bizzarrini brought subsequently their design on the market as the Bizzarrini 1900 GT Europa, and if you need pictures to compare with the GT you can definitely see the necessary similarities. Introduced in 1968 as the “European Corvette” was the GT a nice sports car for people without jaknikker in the backyard. Although the small sporty Opel with a little good will also look like a too hot washed the Corvette, the base was still more modest, and before that served namely the Opel Kadett B. Under the hood was a four cylinder engine of 1100 or 1900 cc that fortunately the power to the correct wheels sent. Nice drifting on roundabouts and so on…or had they then not?

After a relatively short production run of 4 years and a little more than 100,000 copies, it was in 1973 done with the GT. The idea of a relatively affordable coupe in the Opel range remained in the meantime, however, life in cars like the aforementioned Manta, but also the Monza and pronounced exponent of the ’90s, the Calibra. My cousin had one until the gearbox exploded.

This colorful interlude resulted in 2007 in the new GT. At the time, was this more or less as the successor of the Opel Speedster, although it is a very different car, there was the Speedster of course sneak in a Lotus Elise. The second GT was based on the Pontiac Solstice and actually even more on his Saturn sister, the Saturn Sky.

In 2016 eight of Opel, the time is ripe for a new GT, and we now have the first teasers to tackle. See a video with a gray-haired man with a kind of red Terminator eye and a hip design picture with smeared crayons. What Opel ultimately, our presents we go later this year in Geneva.
