Audi TT Roadster Ultra: driving test and video

It is almost spring, so Audi throws its open version of the TT on the market. Actually, there is only one important question we asked prior to the recording of this video asked was: can we take this review without jokes about hairdressers?

The original TT (we may of an Ur-TT speak?) it is a gem. You don’t agree with me, but I find it a topkar. A fantastic unique design and a car with good performance, but with a certain timelessness about them that’s going to ensure that used copies considerably in value will continue to rise in the coming years. Bold statement? We will see. But everything I have touched has me cover on the coupe, not the roadster. Of course, I understand the urge of Audi for that car to build, but the roofline is so decisive for the TT, and roadstervorm is the character of the original TT what concerns me a bit lost.
The second version of the TT was to me something less. More modern, slicker, but unfortunately is also subject to the urge of the Audi designers to put everything together to make it seem. Much less a statement, more of a car that should satisfy a kind of corporate identity. The TT was a lot less separately but at the same time tried to the designers a bit of the round shape to be maintained. A bit of a strange mix it was. A pity, but unfortunately. The roadster I could do something more to appreciate. Not that hondslelijke chrome rollbars (though the new instances are also not very subtle) and just a good-looking roadster. Not my first choice if I for a car went to have a look, but also not really anything wrong with that.
And now there is the latest TT. In one way or another, it seems more to me more on the Ur-TT than the version that was until recently in the showroom stood. Especially in profile, is more of a “real” TT to me, with the front and back that almost seem to mirror. A beautiful car, and now I see before me, the roadster is also a lot prettier to look at. It is a pity that Audi still no way has been found to be that miserable rollbars from the silhouette to demolish, that would be the open line. It is also the most aggressive, contoured TT so far, with headlamps that look at you as if you were just his beer have knocked over. The for the TT so distinctive uitgeklopte wheel arches give the car a nice stance, especially if you make a couple of big wheels in mind, as with the TTS.
Lightweight roof construction
The roadsterversie of the TT again has a soft-top roof. This is up to a speed of 50 kilometers per hour to open and close. The roof construction is 3 kilos lighter than its predecessor, the total weight of the roof is 39 kilograms. The roof closes and opens in 10 seconds and takes no space in the trunk. That boot is 280 litres, more than enough for two ruimbagagekoffers and three packed lunches from Audi. The figures
Before we get in first, the numbers: the Audi TT, which we know is a TDI, also known as Ultra called. Wouter has been with the other bikes at the introduction of the TT Coupe. Ok, that is a cop-out. Of course, the TDI is a bit slower than the TTS, but thanks to the torque it is still a smooth car, something partly due to the very high weight of the TT: the Roadster weighs from 1320 kilograms. The TT roadster can be especially delicious about the way bets, with a nice neutral balance and plenty of grip. Where any other cars from Ingolstadt sometimes be heavy and large like to feel, the TT Roadster is a refreshing playful car. Submit with a lot of precision, thanks to the Torque Vectoring system. In addition, the diesel is nice and smooth: with 7.3 seconds to 100 may not be a supercar-territory, but certainly not slow. Add to this that the TDI thanks to all kinds of sound engineering actually sound good and you have a nice car that is more experience in it than its origin suggests.
The Virtual cockpit in the sun
For my nose I find the Virtual cockpit of the Audi: the large infotainment system on the place where we used to be just analog clocks. The whole looks sleek, has all the info you’d expect to find on the 12.3 inch TFT screen. The menu structure is also adapted for easier and faster operation can be. Another nice detail are the controls of the climate control in the verntilatieroosters. Beforehand, I was afraid that the screen might not be good readable in the roadster, but reflections are minimal and the light output of the cockpit is more than sufficient.

Fair is fair: give me the choice between a TTS and a TT TDI, and I choose still for the TTS. But if you are of miles to eat more, and your boss is a cabrio should choose, I would you have a TT Ultra certainly not discourage. The Ultra proves that diesel is best is fun, even in a roadster.
What could you buy instead of a TT? A Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4 or Mercedes SLK are the most obvious alternatives. With front – or all-wheel drive are that do not get (except the SLK with 4MATIC), but they have, piece by piece, rear-wheel drive which for some readers to understand a big plus.
