Lowie Vermeersch: he is often mentioned in the same breath with Luc Donckerwolke, and that is not so strange, because together they are the most successful Belgian-Flemish designers of this century. What was it like from the pen of the now forty-something?
Between 2007 and 2010 was Vermeersch, design director at Pininfarina, then for themselves to begin with design studio GranStudio, based in Turin. Today, he is – together with Paulo Garella (also ex-Pininfarina) – busy with the SCG003 of Jim Glickenhaus.
The born Kortrijker (photo) showed some more and some less elegant designs, and under his auspices the light of day. An overview:
- Ferrari 458 Italia
The last atmospheric V8-supercar – at least for a while – of Ferrari later this year in the 488 GTB is the successor.
- Ferrari FF
Delicious twaalfcilinder Gran Turismo that despite his deviant form, best described as a spiritual successor of the 612 Scaglietti. Semi-AWD V12-horse and vehicle of choice of o.a. Graziano Pelle and dog owners. Also so desirable that some journo’s (you know who) were willing to be a expensive credit with Ferrari to close to him to be able to drive.
- Maserati GranCabrio
Jason Castriota did the most drawings, but Vermeersch did – as Design Director for the final decision. With a timeless design.
- Maserati Birdcage 75th
Nothing is more fun for designers as concepts build, because you can so good plot. This Maserati Birdcage is low, wide, and delicious.
- Pininfarina Sintesi
Concept with suicide-gullwing doors, and a rippling undulating line took form, from front to rear, and breadvan-swagger to the back. Definitely a distinct appearance.
- Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta
Another concept that tanta (pun-intended) brooch. Did Alpha-fanboys everywhere salivating and longing for a real Spider, but it seemed like Sergio Marchionne is a better plan for Alpha first, still take a few years to be carried out.
- Pininfarina B0 / Pininfarina Nido
The electric car was at the end of the previous decade hip, because the whole auto industry was suddenly very concerned with the environment. And what sign do you then: a boxy elektrokruimeltje.
- Tata Prima
Because also in the house of Pininfarina (and Vermeersch) meat on the table must come, the Italian design house for Tata it was, 6 years ago to see on the Autsalon of Geneva.
