As reported in the support section to retain the support of users of Windows 8 should upgrade to Windows 8.1 within two years after the start of the period of public availability, i.e. until 12 January 2016.
After this date, Windows 8 will no longer receive updates, including security updates from Microsoft. Note that the end date of mainstream support for Windows 8 — January 9, 2018 and end date of extended support January 10, 2023.
