CES 2016: AMD graphics has announced a 14-nm FinFET architecture Polaris

At CES 2016, which runs from 6 to 9 January in Las Vegas, AMD introduced the first look at the new architecture of Polaris. First deliveries of the GPU-based Polaris will begin in mid-2016. At the moment, started postavki engineering samples OEM partners.

Architecture AMD Polaris is a fourth generation GCN (Graphics Core Next) and uses 14-nanometry the fabrication process for transistors with vertical gate (FinFET, fin field effect transistor). It promises significant improvement in productivity per unit of energy consumed. According to the manufacturer, the performance per watt has doubled compared with the previous generation.

Graphics adapters based on Polaris can be used in thin devices with a small form factor and low weight, while ensuring fast and smooth graphics processing, gaming, and multimedia applications.

For it claimed to support HDMI® 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.3 a, encoding and decoding video up to 4K h.265.
