Yesterday, there were in Paris a whole zwik fun cars afgehamerd, including this stunning Porsche 964 Carrera RS (1992). It was not exactly a bargain.
Ask 100 car enthusiasts what their favourite 911, and you will probably get 100 different answers. There are so very many brilliant variations built to be the best point simply can’t. I mean, it is a 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is really better than a 993 GT2? Or is the 930 Turbo 3.3 911 which all other 911’s superfluous? I mean, so difficult is it. At the top of my wish list is this, the Porsche 964 Carrera RS from the early 90s.
Much more pure Porsche they not be built: no crazy spoilers, no turbo, no four-wheel drive and a prototype that is much closer to the original than a 993 and at all the water coolers that after came. Make that with a set of Cup rims and beautiful mirrors that even on an Audi 80 would not look out of place and you have the ultimate Porsche’. I find then, the first 99 people who read this have no doubt each piece has a different preference.
Nevertheless, at least two people agree with me because yesterday at the auction of RM Auctions in Paris angrily offered on this 964 RS. The counter stayed at 201.600 euro, which is quite a whopping amount of money for a production model, of which there are still 1.992 are built. Admittedly, there are only 57.700 km’s on the clock, but judging by the photos you would get a nulletje less also still believe.
On the other hand, the brilliant Porsche 911 GT3 in the Netherlands is 1,100 euros cheaper and a factory new Porsche 911 Turbo, only 200 euro more expensive than this tweedehandsje. Both brand new cars, which is a lot faster and probably also a lot better drive. The 991 Turbo even has exactly twice as much horsepower as the 964 Carrera RS, 520 hp vs 260 hp. Would that also just such classics be about 23 years, almost twice the list price is paid? I don’t think so.
