In Amsterdam, it is now mandatory to have your registration number to enter in the parking meter, but if you don’t pull in the public eye, you can fill in whatever you want. As long as you just pay at least.
In the present case, there was a car somewhere in Amsterdam, parked along the road, but the license plate was not by the scanauto (that checks who has paid) will be recognized. The owner of the car was on the receipt thrown, but it turned out to be just a copy to have in order to prove that he had paid. Gentleman, however, had a false registration number entered and was awarded a penalty.
Is that allowed? No, that should not, in the opinion of the administrative judge. This came out today on the matter, which Bas Filippini of stichting Privacy First the plaintiff was. Filippini had a receipt which showed that it had settled and so there was no reason for him to impose a fine. The whole ruling is here.
All in all, again a (small) victory for the privacy.
