The Toyota Celica you know, that we dare to do. You may have even heard of the Celica Convertible. But did you know that there are five successive generations of Celica Convertible in the Toyota showrooms?
In 2006, after 36 years and seven generations, an end to the life of the Toyota Celica. The affordable Toyota coupe got no direct successor, the GT86, of course, for a part of the empty space taken that the Celica left. The GT86 is a bit more expensive than the Celica at the time and has rear-wheel drive, where since 1985 the Celica are forces let loose on the front wheels (or all wheels).
It is striking that the Celica itself is pretty well known, but the Cabrio versions. Especially not the fact that of all the Celica’s except the first and the last generation, a roofless variant. There need to be said that the homeless Celica of the second generation is not official fabriekscabrio was. This Celica Sunchaser was built by the American Grifith, but was in the US or just through the regular channels sold. Generation of three to six did have all the official convertibles, of which there are even some in our own country around. Exact production figures, we have not been able to learn, but go there but that the homeless Celica’s but in small numbers are sold. Time for pictures:
Toyota Celica Sunchaser (1979-1981)
Toyota Celica Sunchaser (1982-1985)
Toyota Celica 2.0 GT Convertible (1988-1989)
Toyota Celica Convertible (1990-1993)
Toyota Celica Convertible (1994-1999)
Toyota Celica Camry (1980-1982)
Now we with facts about the Celica at the straw: it was a four door Celica. Actually this was a Toyota Carina of the second generation, with a slightly different faceplate that again was based on the Celica Supra (yes, that rappe Toyota began its life as a Celica). After this Celica Camry, the Toyota Camry a life of its own, separate from the Celica and the Carina. Don’t you understand it yet?
