Peugeot 308 GTI: driving test and video

The French have a reputation to uphold in terms of hothatches, but in the C-segment was the Peugeot in the last few years has not been a serious player. The nouveaux 308 GTI should change that.

A turbo is a substitute for cubic inches
Peugeot launched some bold claims about the 308 GTI. It is the most economical in its class, or at least that is the 308 GTI during the test cycle. How slowly it goes during the NEDC test is to see in this video and thus it remains the question of how sparingly the French hothatch in the practice.
The next claim is that the 308 GTI the best hp/kg ratio of the C-segment hothatches. As long as we “hyperhatches” as the A45 AMG and RS3 does not include the part. Hothatches in two flavour in terms of assets we can now as a trend declaration. The Golf GTI is still a type of option, the Leon Cupra is available in two variants and now there is that choice in the 308 GTI. 3 mille extra seems to be solid for an upgrade of 20 hp, but still, this is for me mandatory. The 270 rolls not only on one size bigger rims (which are lighter than the 18″ pattas), but also gets sticky Michelin Super Sport tyres and larger brakes. There’s no substitute for cubic inches

The interior is also decorated with aluminum instaplijsten, pedals, foot rest and shift knob. The leather-and alcantara-covered bucket seats are standard for the “270”. Red piping and black headlining complete the picture.
The Peugeot specific format i-cockpit, you need to keep. There are few physical buttons, even the temperature in the interior is via the touch screen to be arranged. By fitting a smaller steering wheel (352 x 329 mm) above and sideways of the edge of the steering wheel to be placed. Personally, I find not much to add, but not unworkable. Less pleasant is that the physical buttons of the navigation system, there are not, the are merely fixed touchscreen buttons. The touch screen is more on the driver-oriented and interface less enjoyable to be operated for the passenger.
No exciting customer – the sequel
The title is what is heavily encouraged, because the driving characteristics of the 308 GTI are sublime. There is a lot of grip, the car communicates fairly well what is going on and thanks to the Torsen limited slip differential the traction on dry particularly well. The sperdiff is so’n terrible great addition to a stuurmansauto like the 308 GTI. You can harder and earlier out of corners accelerating, although that can also be any learning curve. Under hard acceleration is the effect very noticeable by some pull in the steering wheel, without the steering wheel out of your hands is captured. The front axle is very lively, but the back feels too much as if it has nailed down. Conclusion
For 37.400 euro, the 308 GTI 250 for the door, but the version to have is the GTI 270 3 mille extra cost. A loose remmenupgrade afterwards has a similar price tag, as well as the installation of a mechanical differential lock. The rims are one size bigger (19”), but also 2 kilograms lighter. Standard bucket seats and the vermogensupgrade complete the picture. That is such a good deal that it is a sin for the GTI 250 to go. Movie!
