New exhausts in the Formula 1; what to expect?

Nieuwe uitlaten in de Formule 1; wat te verwachten?
The sound of the cars in the king’s class can receive a boost. New technical rules to achieve that, but will it also work?

That question we can adjust next year with a resounding ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, yet we dare to tread carefully on the goods ahead of to walk. To begin with, as the precise text, that the new rules defines and immediately the limits of what is allowed and indicates.

5.8.2 Engine exhaust systems must have only a single turbine tailpipe exit and either one or two wastegate tailpipe exits which must all be rearward facing and through which all exhaust gases must pass. All and only the turbine exit, the exhaust gases must pass through the turbine tailpipe and all and only the wastegate exhaust gases must pass through the wastegate tailpipe(s). None of the tailpipes may be contained within any of the other tailpipes.

5.8.3 The cross-sectional area of the turbine tailpipe exit at the rearmost point of the turbine tailpipe must lie between 7500mm2 and 14000mm2
, and the total cross-sectional area of the wastegate tailpipe exit(s) at the rearmost point of the wastegate tailpipe(s) must lie between 1590mm2 and 2375mm2. If there are two wastegate tailpipe exits they must be equal in area.

In other words: cars are allowed in 2016 to three outlets, of which one or two pure and only intended for the wastegates. Wastegates are (very briefly described) the valves that prevent the pressure in the intake manifold of turbocharged engines is too high, then by exhaust gases which are normally the turbo let spiders directly. As a result builds the turbocharger less press, and is, for example, to avoid that the motor starts bargaining. Bargaining = premature ignition, which is very damaging or even killing can be for the block.

We wander off. Wastegates provide not only for a decrease of the built-up pressure, but also generate the typical turbogeluid that many a lover provides goosebumps. And right there is the FIA to do, because the F1 sound in 2015 is just not as exciting, because almost absent. The only question is whether this measure is the quantity problem, because extra exhausts for the wastegates to ensure not necessarily more sound. For a ánder sound, and it is beautiful to see how that all goes off tackle.

Connoisseurs who happens to be a descendant of Nostradamus may sign up in the comments, we predict that the sound in 2016 pieces more appealing to the imagination. Admittedly, the desire in this case is the daddy of the idea, but hope makes you live. Yet, Max?
