Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised his Roadster driving early adopters for the end of the year an update, and promise makes debt: the Roadster 3.0 has been announced, with a range of a whopping 400 miles.
The Roadster, in 2008 for the first time in production went, was already bijgepunt with 2.0 and 2.5 versions, but the rack is not there yet. The beginning of 2015 owners can take advantage of new techkennis, and their sportwaggie of the prototype Roadster 3.0 package. The improvement in 3 areas:
1. Batteries
The original Roadster battery was 53 kWh large, it is now possible to ca. 70kWh from the same size.
2. Aerodynamics
With a retrofit aero kit is the Cd value of 0.36 to 0,31 reduced. And everybody knows: less air resistance = more range.
3. Rolling resistance
Also the straps get an update, which should lead to a 20% better rolling resistance. Furthermore, the wheel bearings and the braking system fine-tuning.
All in all, this is an improvement in the range of less than 40-50% t.o.v. the original. Tesla claims that you are with the right driving style, a distance of 400 miles (643 km) on 1 charge can take, and is going to prove this by the beginning of 2015 non-stop from San Francisco to Los Angeles to drive. Translated into Dutch concepts under the right circumstances, you can soon with a Roadster without recharging from Breda to Dijon drive, to find a jar of mustard.
This is not the last update, Tesla let you know that customers also in the future upgrades for their Roadster can expect. Finally, for those who are waiting for a new top-Tesla with even more battery: but do not. No new Model S battery pack or major range upgrade is expected in the near term, says Elons minions. Use clear language.
