It is high time to do something about it!
When it comes to Alfa’s raceverleden, remember the most are the brutal DTM racers of pak ‘m beet 20 years ago still. The older enthusiast, you will undoubtedly still have wet dreams of the Tipo 33 and related beauties. But that the illustrious brand ever a Group C racer built, is probably less well known.
You look at the Alfa Romeo SE 048SP, a sportscar that in the beginning of the 90s was built to replace the Lancia LC2, which, owing to the heavy reglementswijzigingen a lot less relevant. The chassis was designed by Abarth and under the hood is a 3.5 liter V10. Indeed, the same unit as the monstrous and legendary 164 Procar.
Allegedly is the only version that was built later, with a 3.5 litre V12 Formula 1 engine, indeed, a Ferrari. Despite being a racer, is the face of the car is fairly recognizable as being a Alpha because of the distinctive “grille”. The rear wheels were in favour of the drag was neatly packed, just as, for example, on the Jaguar of Jan Lammers was the case.
The original V10 in this brutal racer was good for about 620 hp at 13.300 RPM. Unfortunately, the Alfa due to lack of serious interest from customers never get past the development stage and had this nice car already died for the world there is good and you had made knowledge. A bit like the Ferrari F50 GT.
Despite everything, got the story, still a nice end. The budget after the cancel of the SE 048SP released, was stabbed in the Alfa Romeo 155 touring Car. You know, that DTM-legend from a bygone era that also created a furore in the British touring car championships. But a nice racer, that is the SE 048SP in any case.
