The sun still shines for Audi, BMW and Mercedes, but the latter is the big winner.
Today published BMW as the last of the German Big Three are quarterly figures on Q3, so let’s make them next to each other. In this story we speak – unless indicated otherwise – on the individual personenwagendivisies. It would be compared to Audi unfair to brands like Smart and MINI in the story to involve.
Mercedes:
The brand with the star is like a rocket. The note, with a profit margin of 10.5%, the highest return on sales and knew in Q3 508.400 cars (group: to 720,000 vehicles, +13%)) way to convert, a plus of 18%. The turnover increased with 11% to 20.7 billion euros (group: 37,7 billion, +13%). The EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) amounted to € 2.183 million (Q3 2014: € 1.584 million).
The net profit of the group amounted to € 2,415 billion.
BMW
BMW pulled out in Q3 a profit margin of 9.1 %, and knew in Q3 463.739 car’ (group: 545.062 vehicles, +6,9%), a plus of 7.1%. The turnover increased by 15.6% to euro 21 billion (group: eur 22.3 billion, +14%). The EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) amounted to € 1.912 million (Q3 2014: € 1.697 million).
The net profit of the group amounted to € 1,58 billion.
Audi
Audi has the hardest of the three brands, and has also as the only one with a scandal. Let’s not forget that the EA189 engines (and maybe more?) also in Audi’s. The brand tries to the deterioration in the results of Q3 still to brush away by figures for the first 9 months, in the foreground. Very dramatic, was it not, incidentally, in Q3, just a little less than before.
Audi pulled out in Q3 with a margin of 8 % (the want to be in between 8 and 10%). The sales in Q3 layers on 445.642 cars (Q3 2014: 429,281), China dropped 4.4%. Audi is still the expectation from the 1,74 million sales 2014 over the entire year to improve. The revenue increased by 10.3% to 13.9 billion euro (Q3 2014: 12.6 billion). The operating profit amounted to €1.11 billion (Q3 2014: €1.16 billion).
Conclusion
The German Three are holding the sails in, while the big driver of the past few years (China) it is what lets you down. Yet, this seems to good to be compensated by an aggressive expansion of the line-up and improved results in Europe and North America.
Mercedes was in terms of sales numbers always on place 3, but it seems more and more to port to rattle. And rightly so, given the enhanced design language of the brand (see bv to the new A-class).
