Ended the longest experiment simulating life on the moon

The experiments will simulate life on the moon spend almost all of the major space agencies in the world. Recently ended the long and ambitious such a project. The participants of the laboratory “Wagon-1” held on a specially designed standalone base 370 days and “returned to Earth”.

As reported by the Chinese news Agency Xinhua, the Research complex “Wagon-1” (which is also called “Moon Palace-1”) was built on the basis Bachinskogo University in Beijing. The total area is 160 square meters and it consists of two agricultural modules, living room, 4 single bedrooms, shared Lounges, bathrooms, and module recycling and room for growing animals.

The experiment began in may of 2017. At stage 1, a group consisting of 2 men and 2 women, held in “Moon Palace” for 60 days, after which they were replaced by group 2, which was located in the closed space 200 days. After this, the groups again changed, and the rest of the time 1 group bezvylazno remained on site. After the participants demonstrated the fruits and vegetables that have been grown in the territory of “Wagon-1”.

This experiment gave scientists data needed for the construction of a future lunar space base, which will be located near the satellite of the Earth and will be a kind of “transit point” between the Earth and the lunar base. According to the plan of researchers, it will be a manned station where the crew of 4 people can stay for at least 30 days without health consequences. During this period or upon its completion, people can go to the moon. Moreover, sufficient autonomy such as the presence of modules for growing vegetables and animals to make this lunar station more independent from the supply of resources from Earth.
