We have repeatedly mentioned the wonderful British (and now American) TV series “Black mirror”, as well as the fact that many of the ideas contained in it, frighteningly often find expression in reality. Not so long ago we wrote about the creation of artificial flowers, and now it became known that a large network of hypermarkets, Walmart U.S. plans to produce artificial bees.
The technical name for future devices — “drones pollinating”, and they perform almost all the functions of these bees. The main purpose of these drones is, as you can guess, the pollination of plants. At the request of many experts, if the population of bees will decrease at the same pace as today, after some 15-20 years, they may not stay. And the lack of bees is not just a lack of honey. It is also the death of hundreds of plant species, followed by extinction of whole ecosystems.
But back to the “roboclam”: to implement pollination drones will use sensors, sensors and cameras, and navigation system. They will work in a limited area, flying over it to transfer the pollen. Moreover, together with them, work will be done by robots that will identify and destroy the pests. Walmart representatives have already filed a patent for their device (in addition to above two there are 4 more robot assistant that will assist the work of the drones-pollinators) in the patent and trademark office.
