Still no solution for Brussels ‘ tunnels

BRUSSELS –

A solution for the lack of traffic tunnels in Brussels is still far away. Consultation between the federal government, with the assistance of Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders Wednesday yielded no result.

The state of the tunnels in the Belgian capital is very poor. In the weekend came a piece of concrete loose in one of the tunnels from the west leads to the city centre of Brussels. Another tunnel will be at least a year should close for renovation. The tunnels are very important to the movement somewhat good by Brussels to lead, otherwise it hits the city quickly clogged by traffic jams.

Brussels wants the renovation of the tunnels not only pay, but with bright wording refuse Wallonia and Flanders to be part of the bill to pick up. Brussels wanted to have jurisdiction, then it must also own the lot up, as it sounded on the Walloon and the Flemish side. Also, there is a lot of criticism on the lack of decisiveness of the Brussels government. ,,Brussels just do not know what it is going to do”, they said, also after the consultation.

,,The debt at the Brussels government put on a moment of consultation, concrete solutions should lead in the interest of all citizens, which raises questions about the willingness of this federal government in respect of all the Belgians”, said the Brussels minister-president Rudi Vervoort afterwards.

For a plan to revamp tolls to raise to the Brussels tunnels to use, is very little enthusiasm.

To concrete steps came the Wednesday. There must be a need for more research to be done and ideas to be worked out.
