Google tests search with the built-in censorship on smartphones

Google is planning to launch a version of its search with the built-in censorship in China. This was announced by the publication The Intercept with reference to some documents received.

“Censoriously” the search will use a blacklist for websites and a search of topics related to human rights, democracy, religion, and peaceful protests.

The project, codenamed Dragonfly developed since the spring of last year and has accelerated since December of 2017, after meeting the heads of Google Sundar Pichai (Sundar Pichai) and Chinese authorities. The team of programmers and engineers, Google has created a custom Android app versions of Maotai and Longfei. The application has already been demonstrated to the Chinese authorities. The final version may be launched in the next six months or nine months, depending on the speed of obtaining the approval from the officials

Note that currently the Google search and the majority of the company’s services are now blocked in China. Google has previously expressed its unwillingness to censor.
