The Ford Ka Mk I was a huge hit for Ford. Everyone wanted such a small stadskarretje with New Edge Design. But at the end of 2008 was high time for a successor, since the Ka at that time was already 12 years went.

The styling of the second generation Ford Ka is a lot more cautious. It is a kind of shrunken, bollig Fiesta become in place of a very own design to handle. A bit more mainstream shall we say, and so (still) easier to sell. In addition, the margins were a bit more interesting because the car along with the Fiat 500 was designed.

Motor there is a choice of a 69 bhp petrol engine or a 75 hp diesel.

But the TDCi is rare. On Marktplaats.nl are currently about 575 Ka’s to purchase, of which no more than 3 diesel engines. A manual gearbox is standard, air conditioning is only one of the five cars. Also things like electric windows were not standard. If you want a nice presentation, try a Titanium or Titanium X version to get, which had standard all some nice goodies.

Prices start just under 4,000 euros to 15,000 euros.

Issues

• Wipers on the early Ka’s transformed, this is under warranty solved if it is good.
• It is a typical city car, so keep an eye on things as parkeerschades.
• The rear belts will wear out quicker than average. This is an APK afkeurpunt, so please make sure these are in order.
• It seems that the windows are above-average quick cover, even in the cars with air conditioning. A lot of people complain about it on forums.
• The 1.2 EU6-approved, sometimes have problems when pulling away, allowing the engine to almost or all the way off, especially when starting on a slope. To solve this with a software update.
• The 1.3 TDCi is the same block as the 1.3 MultiJet from the Fiat 500. This means that the following things must be taken into account:
  – The head gaskets are vulnerable
  – More frequent oil change if it for small trips is used
  – The clutch is prone to wear and tear, make sure it works well / does not slip.
  – The block is relatively heavy, so, despite the extra horsepower, you’ll get more driving pleasure from the benzineversie.
