The Mazda 6 is perhaps not the first car you think of when you’re looking for a fine car. We went on a step with the second generation.

This generation is built on the same platform as, for example, the Ford Mondeo and the Volvo S60. That are direct competitors for the Mazda 6, as well as for example the Volkswagen Passat and the Opel Insignia.

The Mazda 6 is known for its reliability, strong engines and enjoyable handling. The chassis is on the firm side, but overall it is a nice car with good driving characteristics. The Mazda 6 was available in three variations: hatchback, sedan and estate. Except for that last variant is the headroom in the back is not very spacious. Some of the materials feel might not be super-luxury, but there is little to find fault with the cabin.

The production started after the introduction in Frankfurt in september 2007, the first cars reached the Dutch showrooms in early 2008.

Issues

• The 2.0 diesel can sometimes have some issues with the lubrication, causing fuel and oil to mix. We recommend you to go for a newer 2.2 diesel.
• The manual gearboxes that stiff of work and not easy on the acceleration, especially in cold weather. This problem is especially higher in the rpm and in the first, second and third gear. A refill of the transmission fluid solve this problem, usually.
• Check whether the air conditioning works well and easy to get cold. Sometimes leaking air conditioning fluid, so check also whether there are any strange damp spots around the pumps and the reservoir.
• The 2.5 litre petrol is recalled in connection with problems with the zuigerpinnen that los could hit and the cylinder liners from damage. You go for this engine, check whether this recall action is performed on your car.
• By default there is no spare wheel supplied, this was an option. There was a repair kit for flat tires as standard, but check if it was still there, and if he is not over his expiration date.
