The new Mazda MX-5 (ND) is officially sexy

25 years ago put Mazda the car industry on its head with a lightweight and affordable two-seater convertibles. The frivolous Japannertje today again received a follow-up, with the introduction of the fourth generation.
The new generation of the Mazda MX-5 has little burden of obesity. On the contrary, as by the new Skyactiv-chassis – of course with rear-wheel drive – the weight is 100 kg lower than the previous model. The car is also in the length shrunk, with the 10.5 cm. The MX-5 is also 2 cm lower to the road and grew to a width of 1 cm. The wheelbase has increased by 1.5 cm and the overhang front and rear, 9-cm is reduced.
Dimensions the MX-5 a nice stance, especially in combination with the strakgesneden headlight units to the front. The roadster retains its ‘smiley face’ on the front, but sees something more mature. The taillights also received a completely new form. The previous were still big and plump, they are small and round, with a lichtstreep to the outside.
In the interior, we see Mazda’s corporate identity back. Three central dials, above which is an 8-inch screen, with a knob in the centre console can be controlled.
At the unveiling gave Mazda still no concrete details about the engines. They kept it on ‘specially tuned’ SKYACTIV-G petrol engines. Probably going to be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and later a 1.5-liter variant. About the supposed turbo engine was used in all languages silent.
The car comes next year summer on the Dutch market. Prices are not yet known.
